What is the most Mexican refrán about money?

"El que no transa no avanza" is the most distinctly Mexican one. Its acknowledgment of small ethical compromises in daily commerce does not have a direct equivalent in Spain Spanish.

Are these proverbs still used by working Mexicans?

Yes. The shorter ones appear in everyday work conversation. The longer moral refranes are heard more from older relatives.

Can I use these refranes in a Mexican workplace?

Yes, but selectively. Más vale pájaro en mano at the close of a negotiation is fine. El que no trabaja no come directed at a colleague is harsh.

Why do Mexican proverbs about money sound cynical?

They reflect an economy where formal and informal sectors run side by side. The cynicism is observational, not aspirational.

Do these proverbs appear in Mexican music or film?

Frequently. Norteño, banda, and corrido lyrics quote work and money refranes regularly, and Mexican telenovelas use them as character shorthand.
